Boys Varsity Baseball
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Greyson Dorste went 3-for-3 with two doubles on Tuesday (May 18) to lift the Hamilton Southeastern baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Columbus North at Southside Elementary School.
Senior Brayton Harrison went 2-for-4 with a double for the Royals, who improved to 15-8 and spoiled the Bull Dogs’ Senior Day. Junior Jake Huston, senior Jack Dewolf and senior Cam Bolling each had one hit for the visitors.
Junior Griffin Lohman allowed two runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking one to pick up the victory. Junior Dylan Gray gave up one hit and struck out one in two innings to record a save.
Sophomores Austin Bode and Kyler McIntosh each had a double for Columbus North, which dropped to 19-6. Junior Homare Takauchi provided an RBI single, while junior Grant Trinkle, senior Devon Rodgers and senior Parker Maddox also had singles.
Senior Konner Stahl started on the mound and gave up two runs on five hits with one strikeout and two walks in 2.2 innings. Sophomore Reese Harmon relieved and yielded one run on three hits with one strikeout in 2.1 innings. Maddox finished the game, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out three and walking one in two innings.
Dorste led off the second inning with a double, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Dewolf single. HSE made it 2-0 in the third inning when senior Anthony Eggers walked and a Harrison two-out double brought Eggers around.
The Bull Dogs tied the game in the bottom of the third. McIntosh led off with a double, and Trinkle singled him to third. With Takauchi at the plate, McIntosh and Trinkle pulled off a double steal that allowed McIntosh to score. Takauchi followed by driving in Trinkle on a bunt single.
HSE went ahead for good in the fifth inning when Huston singled, Harrison singled and Dorste doubled in Huston.
Columbus North managed just one base runner the rest of the way – a two-out single by Rodgers in the sixth.
At the “C Team” level, freshman Trevin Johnson singled, doubled and drove in two runs to help Columbus North post an 8-7 decision over the Indian Creek JV. Freshman Parker Smith also singled and doubled as the Bull Dogs’ “C Team” improved to 3-5. Sophomore Caden Carpenter was the winning pitcher, allowing one run in four innings.
The Columbus North varsity returns to action on Saturday (May 18) when it plays two games in the Indy Invitational at North Central – at 1 p.m. against South Bend St. Joseph and at 3:30 p.m. against Avon.
The “C Team” returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (May 16) when it hosts Batesville at the Southside complex. The “C Team” also hosts Whiteland in a doubleheader that begins at 10 a.m. Saturday (May 18) at Southside.
