MADISON, Ind. – Columbus North recent graduate Parker Maddox made a pair of appearances and picked up a victory while pitching for the South Team in the 2019 Indiana North-South All-Star Baseball Series.
Top seniors from the recently completed high school season are selected to play in the three-game series.
Maddox hurled 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball as the South prevailed 7-3 in the opener on Saturday (June 22) at Gary O’Neal Field. The right-hander struck out one, walked one and allowed one hit in the appearance.
The North rebounded to take a 16-3 victory in the second game later Saturday.
Maddox made a second appearance in the finale on Sunday (June 23), a game where the North won 8-4. Maddox, an Ohio University signee, pitched one inning and allowed no runs in Game 3, a wood-bat only contest.
Kyle Schmack of South Central (Union) Mills was named MVP of the All-Star series after going 8-for-10 with a double, home run and eight RBIs in the three games.
The North improved its record to 68-63 in the 45th annual series.
The 2020 Indiana North-South All-Star Baseball Series will be played in Evansville.
Maddox compiled a 6-1 record with one save for Columbus North in its 2019 season. He struck out 51 batters and walked just 19 with a 1.37 earned-run average in 41.0 innings. Maddox earlier was chosen IHSBCA all-district and first-team all-Conference Indiana. He also was honored as the Bull Dogs’ co-most valuable pitcher for 2019.
Previous Columbus North participants in the IHSBCA All-Star Series include Teal Murphy in 2005, Jon Clarence in 2007, Cooper Trinkle and Kevin Thompson in 2017, and Tyler Finke in 2018. The All-Star series started in 1975.
