Columbus North senior Parker Maddox and junior Grant Trinkle have been named Class 4A honorable mention all-state by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Maddox, a pitcher, compiled a 6-1 record with one save while helping the Bull Dogs to a 22-8 season and Conference Indiana championship at 5-0 in 2019. The Ohio University recruit struck out 51 batters and walked just 19 with a 1.37 earned-run average in 41.0 innings. He was honored as CN’s co-most valuable pitcher.
Trinkle, primarily an outfielder, hit .412 with a season school-record 44 runs, five doubles, seven triples, two home runs, 16 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. Trinkle's seven triples tied a school record for triples in a season. He also drew 21 walks, tied for seventh best in a Columbus North single season, and his 20 steals tied for ninth on the school’s single-season annals. The University of Kentucky commit was named the Bull Dogs’ MVP and the team’s most valuable offensive player during 2019.
Maddox previously was selected for the 2019 Indiana North-South All-Star Baseball Series and IHSBCA all-district. Maddox and Trinkle previously were chosen first-team all-Conference Indiana.
Columbus North all-state selections over the years include Teal Murphy, first team in 2005; Daniel Ayers, honorable mention in 2012; Ayers, first team, and Devin Mann, honorable mention in 2013; Mann, honorable mention in 2014; Mann, first team, and Brice McDaniel, honorable mention in 2015; Cooper Trinkle, first team in 2016; Cooper Trinkle, first team, and Kevin Thompson, honorable mention in 2017; and Tyler Finke, honorable mention in 2018.
