June 5, 2021 - The second-ranked Columbus North baseball team saw its season come to a close with a 3-1 loss to third-ranked Center Grove in the Regional Semi-finals.
After two scoreless innings, the Trojans got on the board in the top of the third inning with two walks and a single, followed by a three-run triple to take a 3-0 lead on the Bull Dogs. Those proved to be the only runs needed for Center Grove, as Columbus North was held to four hits and struck out eight times.
Will Baker got the start on the mound for the Dogs. He lasted five innings, gave up three earned runs on six hits, walked four, and struck out seven Trojans. He was relieved in the sixth inning by Kyler McIntosh, who pitched two innings, giving up only a single hit and striking out one.
McIntosh, who was recently named to the North/South All-star team, provided the only score for the Bull Dogs with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bull Dogs left eight runners on base for the game, including three to end the bottom of the sixth inning. In addition to McIntosh’s home run, the three remaining hits for the Bull Dogs belonged to Reese Harmon, Blake Huffman, and Hayden McDaniel, who all singled.
The Bull Dogs finish the season 27-5-1, ranked second in Class 4A, Conference Indiana co-Champions, and Bloomington North Sectional Champions. They spent some time during the season ranked in the top-20 nationally by MaxPreps.
Congratulations on an outstanding season, Bull Dog baseball team and Coach Ben McDaniel.
