Columbus North senior Matt Vorndran was honored as MVP of the Bull Dogs’ 2017 boys’ golf team at the season-ending gathering on Saturday (June 17).
Vorndran averaged 74.42 strokes in 14 18-hole rounds for a team that placed fifth in the IHSAA state meet. That came after winning the Greensburg Sectional and placing second in the Providence Regional. Individually, Vorndran tied for fourth at state with a 74-70—144, and he posted a season-best 67 in the regional where he was second in a playoff. He was chosen to the all-state team as picked by the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association.
Another receiving a special accolade was sophomore Jackson Kerber, who was presented the team’s Bull Dog Award. Kerber averaged 47.60 strokes for five nine-hole matches; he shot a 99 in his only 18-hole event.
Five CN athletes received recognition from Conference Indiana. Vorndran as well as senior Zachary Schiavello, sophomore Drew Smith and senior Bryce Turner were first-team all-conference. Senior Spencer Fairbanks was honorable mention all-conference.
Schiavello and Turner were recognized as team captains. They were joined as varsity letterman by seniors Spencer Fairbanks, Matt Vorndran and Jonathan Ward; sophomores Jackson Kerber, Henry Kiel, Reese Moore, Drew Smith, Cameron Ziegler.
JV awards went to seniors Walker Thomas and Joseph Suverkrup, junior Drew Wilson, sophomore Conner Williams and freshman Rishabh Kularni.
