FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Harrison Lakers, a team with three players from Columbus North, one from Columbus East and one from Greenwood, won the Franklin Qualifier on Monday (June 8) of the Indiana Golf Association Boys State Team Championship with a 314 at The Legends Golf Club.
Jackson Watkins, a rising junior from Greenwood, paced the Lakers with a 76. Willy Davis, a rising sophomore at Columbus North, and Kody Reynolds, a rising senior at Columbus East, contributed a pair of 79s. Luke Schneider, a rising junior at Columbus North, chipped in an 80. Jack Schiavello, a rising sophomore at Columbus North, provided a 97.
Their total was one stroke better than teams called Center Grove Legacy and New Castle. The Center Grove team captured the second and final qualifying spot for the event’s final rounds on Wednesday and Thursday (June 10-11) at Purdue University’s Ackerman-Allen Golf Course in West Lafayette.
Christie Ministrels, a team of players from three Johnson County schools, finished fourth with a 318. Franklin Golf Club and Center Grove Trojans tied for fifth at 327. CG Trojan Boys placed seventh at 347. The Columbus Sandbaggers, a team of five players from Columbus North, finished eighth with a 347.
Rising senior Jacob Niedbalski paced the Columbus Sandbaggers with an 83. Rising senior Michael Gambaiani added an 85. Rising senior Luke VanDeventer tallied an 89. Rising sophomore Damon Gregory contributed a 90. Rising senior Andrew Krueger shot 100.
