COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Natalie Teo scored one goal and assisted on two others Tuesday (Oct. 6), lifting the Columbus North girls soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Scottsburg in the first round of the Columbus North Sectional.
The Bull Dogs improved to 5-8-3 with the decision and earned a semifinal date at 8 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 8) against Columbus East (7-4-5) at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex. Seymour and Madison will meet in the first semifinal at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The semifinal winners square off in the sectional final at 7 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 10).
The Bull Dogs left little doubt in their first-round game. Sophomore Morgan Parkhurst and sophomore Corrine Orben scored in the eighth and 18th minutes, Teo assisting on both goals.
Teo added her own goal in the 21st minute off a feed from junior Chloe Chambers, and CN pushed its lead to 5-0 by the half. Junior Katlin Meek scored with an assist from Orben in the 29th minute, and freshman Tanner Johnson tallied an unassisted goal in the 36th minute.
Freshman Baleigh Drum completed the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 78th minute.
Sophomore Liz Tynan and junior Charlotte Verbanic each played 40 minutes in goal to share the shutout. Tynan made two saves, while Verbanic did not face any shots on goal.
