Girls Varsity Soccer
Junior Natalie Teo was recognized as MVP of the Columbus North girls soccer team Thursday evening (Nov. 19) at the squad’s season-ending awards gathering.
Teo, a midfielder, tallied 14 points on three goals and eight assists for the 5-9-3 Bull Dogs.
Other honorees included junior Reagan Ward, junior Chloe Chambers, junior Marina Hughes, sophomore Liz Tynan and sophomore Corrine Orben.
Ward was the winner of the team’s Bull Dog Award, while Chambers was selected Offensive Player of the Year and Hughes was chosen Defensive Player of the Year. Tynan was selected the squad’s Most Improved Player, and Orben was MVP of the junior varsity team.
Ward, a midfielder, saw limited action after suffering a season-ending injury in August, while Chambers totaled 10 points on four goals and two assists. Hughes played a key role on a defense that allowed just 25 goals in 17 games.
Tynan overcame a foot injury to be a primary goalkeeper for the JV and a backup keeper for the varsity, while Orben helped the JV to a 6-6-2 season.
Earlier, Chamers, Hughes and Teo were recognized as first-team all-Conference Indiana honorees. Also, juniors Charlotte Verbanic and Emma Wilson were cited as honorable mention all-conference.
Hughes, Teo, Verbanic and Wilson were four of seven CN players chosen Academic All-State by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association. They were joined by senior Emma LaVelle, junior Katlin Meek and junior Daniela Chaparro. Also, Ward was cited by the ISCA as the Bull Dogs’ Top Team Player.
Seniors Katie Carlson and Rachel Craig were recognized as team captains. Joining them as varsity letter winners were seniors Emma LaVelle and Dianna Ruiz-Knox; juniors Chloe Chambers, Elizabeth Craig, Marina Hughes, Addy Lang, Katlin Meek, Claire Risley, Natalie Teo, Charlotte Verbanic, Reagan Ward, Emma Wilson; sophomores Anna Andrews, Kaitlyn Calandro, Corrine Orben, Kristen Orben, Jocelyn Maynard, Morgan Parkhurst and Liz Tynan; and freshmen Baleigh Drum, Tanner Johnson and Elise Whitley.
JV award winners were juniors Daniela Chaparro and Sydnie Grooms; sophomores Paige Beales, Dulce Maria Hernandez-Moreno, Morgan Imlay, Kelsey Patberg, Nancy Renteria-Malagon, Angela Ruiz and Summer Spencer; and freshmen Reeya Chenanda, Kiran Gill, Larah Henderson, Julia Iorio, Mallary Monk, Rose Sardina and Lauren Wetterau.
