Girls Varsity Soccer
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sophomore Caroline Hollenkamp scored in the 77th minute Wednesday evening (Aug. 23) to give the Columbus North girls soccer team a 1-1 draw with Bloomington North at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Senior Aleida Veldman scored an unassisted goal for the visiting Cougars in the 49th minute. But Hollenkamp converted an opportunity off a feed from senior Kristen Orben in the game’s final minutes.
Senior Liz Tynan made four saves in goal for Columbus North (3-0-1 overall, 0-0-1 Conference Indiana). Junior goalkeeper Katie Carver made five saves for Bloomington North (3-2-1, 0-1-1 CI).
At the JV level, freshman Samantha Crossman and sophomore Hannah Grimes each tallied an unassisted goal as the Bull Dogs claimed a 2-1 decision. Sophomore Kaylyn Bates made one save, and the Cougars’ lone goal – by freshman Natalie Riedel – came on a penalty kick. The Bull Dogs' JV improved to 1-2-0.
Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Aug. 26) when it competes in the annual soccer quadruple-header against Columbus East back at the Wigh Complex – boys’ JV at 2 p.m., girls’ JV at 4 p.m., boys’ varsity at 6 p.m. and girls’ varsity at 8 p.m.
