Girls Varsity Soccer
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Tanner Johnson posted a hat trick on Tuesday (Oct. 3), leading the Columbus North girls soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Greenwood in the first round of the Class 3A sectional hosted by Columbus East.
Sophomore Caroline Hollenkamp also scored for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 10-3-2 and moved into a semifinal game at 5 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 5) against Center Grove (11-4-3). The Trojans advanced with a 2-0 triumph over Whiteland.
Franklin (4-11-0) and Columbus East (9-5-2) will play in the second semifinal. The semifinal winners will meet for the sectional championship at 7 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 7).
Johnson scored a trio of unassisted goals in the first half – one in the 10th minute, a second in the 22nd minute and the third in the 32nd minute – to give Columbus North a commanding lead over the Woodmen.
Greenwood countered with an unassisted tally by Kayla Rance in the 60th minute, but Hollenkamp countered that with a goal on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
CN senior Liz Tynan notched four saves while recording the victory in goal.
