Girls Varsity Soccer
Junior Tanner Johnson was recognized as MVP of the 2017 Columbus North girls soccer team Tuesday evening (Nov. 28) at the squad’s season-ending awards gathering in the school cafeteria.
Johnson, a forward, totaled 39 points on 18 goals and three assists for the 14-4-2 Bull Dogs who were sectional champions, regional champions and finished in the final four of Class 3A.
Other honorees included senior Liz Tynan, sophomore Caroline Hollenkamp, junior Elise Whitley, freshman Kate Kolhouse and sophomore Hannah Grimes.
Tynan was the winner of the team’s Bull Dog Award, while Hollenkamp was selected Offensive Player of the Year and Whitley was chosen Defensive Player of the Year. Kolhouse was honored as the team’s Most Improved Player, and Grimes was MVP of the junior varsity team.
Tynan, a goalkeeper, had nine shutouts and amassed a 0.91 goals-against average. Hollenkamp, a midfielder, totaled 19 points on nine goals and one assist. Whitley was a back-line mainstay for a unit that allowed just 17 goals all season. Kolhouse was another top-notch defender, while Grimes excelled on the JV level and helped that squad to a 4-8-1 season.
Earlier, Johnson, Tynan and Whitley were recognized as first-team all-Conference Indiana. Also, Hollenkamp and senior Corrine Orben were cited as honorable mention all-conference.
In addition, Tynan was voted third-team all-state and Johnson was selected honorable mention all-state by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association. Previously, both Johnson and Tynan were chosen first-team all-District 4 and Whitley was second-team all-District 4 by the ISCA. Also, senior Anna Andrews was cited by the ISCA as the Bull Dogs’ Top Team Player.
Eight CNHS players were selected Academic All-State by the ISCA. That group included Andrews, Johnson, Orben, Tynan, Whitley, junior Christy DeDomenic, senior Jocelyn Maynard and junior Rose Sardina.
Seniors Anna Andrews, Corrine Orben and Liz Tynan were recognized as team captains. Joining them as varsity letterwinners were seniors Morgan Imlay, Kristen Orben and Jocelyn Maynard; juniors Morgan Blankenhorn, Christy DeDomenic, Baleigh Drum, Tanner Johnson, Rose Sardina and Elise Whitley; sophomores Kaylyn Bates, Alayne Davis, Hannah Grimes and Caroline Hollenkamp; and freshmen Kate Kolhouse and Lauryn Whitley.
JV award winners were juniors Shauna Flach, Larah Henderson and Ariana Ison; sophomores Dani Aguilar, Dayana Franco, Cailyn Goebel, Abigail Hovis, Hallie Schwartzkopf, Riley Stevens and Ayame Tsutsui; and freshmen Niah Andis, Samantha Crossman, Helena Ho, Denise Perez, Bryana Portaluppi, Sarina Wills and Lulu Yang.
