Hollenkamp's goal gives Columbus North boys soccer a 1-1 tie with East Central in opener

ST. LEON, Ind. -- Sophomore Rico Hollenkamp scored on a free kick in the 22nd minute Tuesday (Aug. 18), giving the Columbus North boys soccer team a 1-1 tie at East Central in the season-opening game for both teams.
Jason Amberger scored in the third minute for the host Trojans, but they were unable to get another shot past CN senior goalkeeper Ty Bentham.
Bentham played the entire game in the nets for the Bull Dogs and made seven saves.
Hollenkamp's goal came on a re-start about 25 yards out in the center of the field. Freshman Alex McGill, senior Alex Davidson and sophomore Kaemon Jiles provided other shots on goal for Columbus North, but the Bull Dogs were unable to convert a go-ahead score.
Junior Jeremias Dela Cruz scored the only goal in the JV game, giving Columbus North a 1-0 victory in that contest.
The Bull Dogs return to action Thursday (Aug. 20) when they host Bloomington North at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex in their home opener. The JV game is set for 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow about 7:30 p.m.
