COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Sophomore Kaemon Jiles scored his first varsity goal and senior Ty Bentham recorded a shutout Saturday (Aug. 29), keying the Class 2A No. 14 Columbus North boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over rival Columbus East at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Jiles' goal came in the 28th minute off a feed from senior Alex Davidson from just inside the penalty area as the Bull Dogs improved to 2-1-1.
Bentham, meanwhile, made eight saves as he and the CN defense posted their first shutout of the season.
Sophomore Rico Hollenkamp notched four shots on goal for the Bull Dogs, while Jiles put another shot on goal (in addition to his goal) and freshman Alex McGill had an opportunity sail over top of the goal.
Senior A.J. Cruite made five saves for Columbus East.
Senior Alex Hammond, senior Caleb Glass, senior Andrew Thomasson, sophomore Jayvon Thomas and senior Sam Newell were among the Olympians who put shots on goal.
In the JV game, East notched a second-half goal to claim a 1-0 decision. The North JV dropped to 2-1-1.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 3) with when it visits Franklin Central in its Conference Indiana East Division opener. The JV game is set for 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow about 7:30 p.m.
