INDIANAPOLIS -- Senior Kevin Morales scored two goals and freshman Alex McGill tallied another Thursday (Sept. 3), lifting the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 3-0 victory at Franklin Central in a Conference Indiana East Division game.
Seniors Preston Grimes and Ty Bentham split time in the goal and shared the shutout as the Bull Dogs improved to 3-1-1 overall and moved to 1-0 in CI division games.
McGill opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Morales made it 2-0 by putting a rebound of his own shot past Franklin Central goalkeeper Drew Mueller in the 69th minute. Morales closed the scoring in the 79th minute, finishing a cross from the right wing that came from sophomore Axel Arroyo.
Grimes played 55 minutes in goal and made two saves. Bentham played the final 25 minutes in the nets and made one save.
CN dominated the run of play. It outshot the Flashes 18-8. The Bull Dogs put nine shots on goal, while FC put just three shots on goal.
In the JV game, junior Alec Doyle scored two goals and classmate Sam LaVelle added one goal as Columbus North prevailed 3-1. Junior Mark Salle-Tabor played 60 minutes in goal, while freshman Noah Kestler played the last 10 minutes in goal.
The Bull Dogs return to action on Saturday (Sept. 5) when they visit Westfield. The JV game begins at 10 a.m., and the varsity will follow about 11:30 a.m.
