WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Freshman Alex McGill scored two goals Saturday (Sept. 5), helping the Columbus North boys soccer team earn a draw at Westfield.
Senior Sam Snider produced an assist on McGill's first goal, which came in the third minute and gave the Bull Dogs (3-1-2) an early advantage.
The Shamrocks tied the game at 1-1 on a penalty kick in the 28th minute. The hosts then went ahead with another goal in the 50th minute.
In the 57th minute, junior Cameron Phillips was pulled down in the penalty area and CN was awarded a penalty kick. McGill put that opportunity past Westfield goalkeeper Joey Cardwell to account for the 2-2 final.
For the game, the Bull Dogs totaled 12 shots, seven shots on goal and Cardwell had five saves.
For Columbus North, senior Ty Bentham played the entire game in goal. The Shamrocks tallied 14 shots, nine shots on goal and Bentham made seven saves.
In the JV game, Westfield claimed a 2-1 decision. Junior Alec Doyle scored the only goal for the Bull Dogs (3-2-1).
Columbus North has a bit of a lull before being busy late next week. Its next game is Thursday (Sept. 1) at home against Southport. The JV game is set for 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:30 p.m.
The Bull Dogs' varsity follows by playing in the Great Midwest Classic at North Central on Friday (Sept. 11) and Saturday (Sept. 12). CN faces Lawrence North at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Avon at 5 p.m. Saturday.
