COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Tyler Heathcote scored an unassisted goal in the 46th minute, but it was not enough as the Columbus North boys soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Southport on Thursday (Sept. 10).
Lal Mawi and Anthony Bil each scored for the Cardinals, who improved to 1-1 in Conference Indiana East Division action. Columbus North dropped to 3-2-2 overall and 1-1 in CI East Division play.
Senior Ty Bentham played a complete game in goal for the Bull Dogs. He made six saves. Southport goalkeeper Jacob Tellas made four saves.
At the JV level, Columbus North took a 1-0 victory. Junior Jeremias Dela Cruz scored the game's only goal in the 18th minute. Junior Mark Salle-Tabor posted the shutout in goal for the Bull Dogs (4-2-1).
The Columbus North varsity returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 11) when it faces Lawrence North in the Great Midwest Classic at North Central High School in Indianapolis. CN follows by playing Class 2A No. 1 Avon at 5 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 12) in its final game in the Great Midwest Classic.
