Boys Varsity Soccer
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Alex McGill posted a hat trick Tuesday evening (Aug. 22) to lead the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 4-2 victory over Cathedral at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Sophomore Sotaro Kaneda also found the net for the Bull Dogs (1-1), while senior Jack Robertson notched two assists and sophomore Graham Keele had one assist.
Junior Noah Kestler played the entire game in goal, recording five saves.
The visiting Irish took an early lead when Nate Griffin scored an unassisted goal in the game’s first minute. Kaneda tied the contest in the fourth minute on a feed from Robertson, then McGill gave CN a 2-1 edge in the 12 minute with Robertson again earning the assist.
The Irish’s Andrew Darling retied the game just before the half, but McGill gave the hosts the lead for good just 1:22 into the second half by converting a feed from Keele. McGill closed the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 69th minute.
At the JV level, Cathedral’s Ethan Caldwell scored in the 22nd minute to give the visitors a 1-0 victory. Freshman Colvin Iorio made eight saves in goal for the Bull Dogs (1-1).
Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Aug. 26) when it takes part in the annual quadruple-header against Columbus East at the Wigh Complex – the boys JV game at 2 p.m., the girls JV game at 4 p.m., the boys varsity game at 6 p.m. and the girls varsity game at 8 p.m.
