Boys Varsity Soccer
INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Alex McGill scored a goal and added an assist on Thursday evening (Aug. 31), leading the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 3-0 triumph at Franklin Central.
Senior Axel Arroyo and sophomore Sotaro Kaneda also scored for the Bull Dogs (3-2 overall, 1-1 Conference Indiana). Senior Finn Anderson contributed two assists.
Junior Noah Kestler and freshman Colvin Iorio shared the shutout. Kestler made five saves in 75 minutes, and Iorio made one save in five minutes.
McGill’s goal off a feed from Anderson came in the 27th minute. Arroyo made it 2-0 in the 31st minute off another feed from Anderson. Kaneda closed the scoring in the 46th minute, McGill earning the assist.
The Bull Dogs put 13 shots on goal, Kaneda and senior Jannis Anderson with three each.
Franklin Central posted a 2-1 victory at the JV level. Freshman Jesus Hernandez scored an unassisted goal in the eighth minute for the Bull Dogs (2-3), but the Flashed countered with goals by Greg Dawes and Connor Molter to prevail. Freshman Colvin Iorio was in goal all 70 minutes for CN.
Columbus North returns to action Saturday (Sept. 2) as part of a quadruple-header against Terre Haute South at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex – JV girls at 11 a.m., varsity girls at 12:30 p.m., JV boys at 2 p.m. and varsity boys at 3:30 p.m.
