Boys Varsity Soccer
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Alex McGill scored three goals and added an assist Thursday evening (Sept. 14), leading the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 4-1 triumph over Perry Meridian.
Senior Finn Anderson also scored for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 7-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in Conference Indiana. The Falcons fell to 4-2-1 in league games.
McGill gave Columbus North an early lead with an unassisted goal in the 14th minute.
Nick Vaux tied the game for Perry Meridian in the 34th minute, but Anderson gave the Bull Dogs the lead for good in the 44th minute off a feed from McGill.
McGill added another unassisted goal in the 49th minute, then tallied once more in the 78th minute off an assist from junior Ernesto Perez.
Junior Noah Kestler made nine saves while allowing the one goal in the net for Columbus North.
In the JV game, freshman Jesus Hernandez gave CN a first-half lead en route to a 3-0 victory. Sophomore Evan Logan and junior Fabio Navarro also scored for the Bull Dogs (4-4-1), while freshmen Jorge Bailon and Ricardo Navarro each notched an assist. Freshman Colvin Iorio posted a shutout in goal with eight saves.
Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 16) when it visits Terre Haute North. The JV game begins at 11 a.m., and the varsity follows the JV about 12:30 p.m.
