Boys Varsity Soccer
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Freshman Jesus Hernandez scored twice Saturday (Sept. 16) to help the Columbus North boys soccer team claim a 3-1 victory at Terre Haute North.
Junior Alex McGill added a goal and an assist for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 8-4-1 overall and 4-2-0 in Conference Indiana contests. Sophomore Graham Keele also had an assist.
Senior Patrick Rowe scored for the Patriots, who dropped to 4-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the league.
McGill gave Columbus North a lead in the 26th minute when he found the net off a Keele corner kick.
Hernandez made it 2-0 in the 48th minute with an unassisted tally, then pushed the Bull Dogs’ edge to 3-0 in the 59th minute when he finished an opportunity created by McGill.
Junior Noah Kestler played all 80 minutes in the nets for CN, making seven saves.
Rowe scored THN’s lone goal in the 64th minute off a feed from senior Evan Curry.
At the JV level, junior Israel Jaimes and freshman Bryce Lynn each scored as the Bull Dogs claimed a 3-0 decision. The Bull Dogs’ third tally came on a Terre Haute North own goal. Freshmen Colvin Iorio and David James each played one half in the nets to share the shutout as CN improved to 5-4-1.
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 19) when it hosts Southport at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex in its final league game of the season. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:30 p.m. The Bull Dogs visit Westfield on Thursday (Sept. 21).
