Boys Varsity Soccer
SEYMOUR, Ind. – Junior Alex McGill scored four goals on Wednesday evening (Oct. 4) to lift the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Seymour in the Class 3A sectional at Seymour.
Sophomore Graham Keele contributed a goal and an assist for the Bull Dogs (13-5-1), who earned a spot in the sectional final at 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 7) against Columbus East (12-2-4). The Olympians beat Jennings County 4-0 in the other semifinal.
McGill gave Columbus North a 1-0 lead at intermission when he scored on a feed from senior Jack Robertson in the fourth minute. He doubled CN’s advantage in the 46th minute with an unassisted goal.
McGIll made it 3-0 in the 51st minute with junior Fraser Swan collecting the assist. Keele scored in the 61st minute of a feed from senior Finn Anderson, and McGill closed the scoring in the 73rd minute with Keele earning the assist.
Junior Noah Kestler and freshman Colvin Iorio shared the shutout. Kestler played 75 minutes and made four saves. Iorio played the final five minutes with no saves.
Columbus North is seeking the program’s second consecutive sectional title and 15th since the IHSAA began overseeing boys soccer in 1994. Columbus East is after its fourth sectional crown and first since 2015.
