Keele cited as MVP of 2018 Columbus North boys soccer team

                Junior Graham Keele was recognized as the most valuable player for the 2018 Columbus North boys soccer team on Tuesday (Oct. 23) at the team’s season-ending gathering.

                Keele, a midfielder, totaled 31 points on 15 goals and one assist in leading the Bull Dogs to a 7-11-1 season that included a third-place finish in Conference Indiana. Keele also was recognized for being voted second-team all-District 4 by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association.

                Others cited during the program were senior Noah Kestler, sophomore Kurt Nusterer, junior Sotaro Kaneda and junior Ben Malone.

                Kestler was recognized as winner of the Bull Dog Award, while Nusterer was presented the most improved award. Kaneda was honored with the David Green Spirit of the Game Award and Malone was presented the ISCA Top Team Player Award.

                Kestler, a goalkeeper, posted a 1.65 goals against average and three shutouts while playing 1,255 minutes in the net. Nusterer, a forward, totaled six points on two goals and two assists. Kaneda, a forward, accrued 11 points on three goals and five assists. Malone, a defender, tallied one assist.

                Also, Keele, Malone, senior Zach Friend, junior Andrew Goble and junior Vish Lella were recognized as ISCA Academic All-State players. Those receiving Academic All-State honors must be a junior or senior and carry a 3.7 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale.

                Varsity letters were awarded to seniors Zach Friend, Edgar Garcia, Noah Kestler, Fabio Navarro, Ernesto Perez and Fraser Swan; juniors Andrew Goble, Sotaro Kaneda, Graham Keele, Vish Lella and Ben Malone; sophomores Mauricio Brito-Zavala, Martin Figueroa, Jesus Hernandez, Colvin Iorio, Sam Larken, Kurt Nusterer, Jacob Gilliams, Bryce Lynn, Jared Marquez and Ricardo Navarro; and freshmen Will Holliday, Luke Schneider, Nathan White and Jesse Williams.

                Recognized as JV players were junior Blake Dillman; sophomores Jorge Avila, Gustavo Lopez and Ben LaVelle; and freshmen Alex Aguilar-Mendez, Roberto Cardosa, Gumaro Guzman, Daniel Kelley, Wyatt Kuehner, Christian Ortega, Sam Perez, Alex Ruiz, Miguel Saldivar and Marco Susalta. Also, freshmen Simon Grooms and Brandon Stewart were cited as managers.
