White has goal, assist as Columbus North boys soccer ties 3A No. 12 Center Grove 2-2

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Nathan White scored a goal and added an assist Tuesday evening (Sept. 1), keying the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 2-2 draw with Class 3A No. 12 Center Grove.

White scored the game’s opening goal in the 34th minute at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex. He tapped the ball in from 6 yards after freshman Aidan Whitley had intercepted a Trojans’ pass, moved into the penalty area and crossed the ball to White.

The visitors countered quickly for a 2-1 edge at intermission. Freshman Ely Detty tied the game in the 35th minute, heading in a rebound from a Center Grove corner kick. Two minutes later, sophomore Landon Montfort scored on another header, this one set up by a free kick by senior Keoni Shake.

The Bull Dogs drew even in the 65th minute when junior Jesse Williams fired a rocket into the net from about 16 yards. White created the opportunity when he stole the ball near midfield. He then crossed to Williams, who received the ball about 30 yards out, dribbled by a defender and then fired a low liner for the equalizer.

Senior Colvin Iorio played the full 80 minutes in goal for Columbus North. He totaled six saves.

Columbus North, now 1-1-3, totaled 12 shots with seven shots on goal. Center Grove, now 2-2-2, tallied 14 shots with eight shots on goal.

At the JV level, sophomore Evan Shirer netted two first-half goals as the visiting Trojans took a 2-0 victory. CN sophomore Lukas Iorio played the first half in goal, making two saves. Freshman Dylan Diaz played the second half in the nets, making one save. The Bull Dogs’ JV fell to 3-2-0.

Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 3) when it hosts Franklin Central at Max Andress Field. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:30 p.m. The Center Grove varsity is back in action 7 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference-rival and Class 3A No. 1 North Central.
