Boys Varsity Soccer
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Gui Basso scored in the 30 th minute Friday evening (Sept. 11), and the visiting Carmel boys soccer team went on to post a 3-0 victory over Columbus North at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
The Class 3A No. 7 Greyhounds added a goal on a penalty kick in the 37th minute as well as an unassisted goal by senior Medard Mikobi in the 38th minute to improve to 7-1-1.
Carmel totaled 21 shots with 12 shots on goal. The Bull Dogs (3-2-4) countered with nine shots and two shots on goal. CN senior Colvin Iorio played the full 80 minutes in the nets, making nine saves.
Senior Nathan White notched three shots with one shot on goal. Senior Jesse Williams had two shots with one shot on goal. Senior Mauricio Brito, sophomore Anthony Johnson, senior Jacob Gilliam and freshman Aidan Whitley each had one shot.
At the JV level, freshman Marco Figueroa scored in the 66th minute to give the Bull Dogs a 1-1 tie. The Greyhounds’ Arjun Gupta scored in the sixth minute and the visitors led until Figueroa stole a clearing pass and then lofted the ball over the Carmel keeper and into the net. Sophomore Lukas Ioria played the first half in goal and made one save for the Bull Dogs (4-2-3). Freshman Christopher Perez played the second half in goal and made five saves.
Columbus North returns to action on Monday (Sept. 14) when it host East Central back at the Wigh Complex. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:30 p.m. The Bull Dogs follow by hosting Terre Haute North next Saturday (Sept. 19), also at the Wigh Complex.
