Boys Varsity Soccer
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. – Sophomore Nathan Imlay scored two second-half goals on Saturday (Sept. 26), leading the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 5-3 victory over Munster in its opening game of the Zionsville Classic.
Freshmen Aidan Whitley, Ian Jackson and Misaki Takemoto also found the net as the Bull Dogs went 1-1 for the day and saw their season record move to 5-5-4.
In CN’s second game, it dropped a 1-0 decision to Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger.
In the opener, junior Will Holliday, freshman Marco Figueroa and junior Nathan White added assists as the Bull Dogs grabbed a 2-1 lead at intermission, then went on to claim the triumph.
Whitley opened the scoring with a free kick in the 21st minute, but Munster’s Nana Nnuro-Frimpong tied the game in the 28th minute from just inside the 6. Jackson gave Columbus North the lead again in the 29th minute on a well executed corner kick, then Imlay made it 3-1 when he tapped in a Holliday cross early in the second half.
The Mustangs made it a one-goal game in the 43rd minute, but Imlay again extended the CN advantage by finishing a Figueroa feed. Takemota pushed the count to 5-2 in the 66 th minute, White earning the assist. Munster cut its deficit in the late going with a goal off a rebound of a free kick.
Senior Colvin Iorio played the full 80 minutes in goal, making eight saves.
Munster totaled 27 shots and 11 shots on goal. Columbus North countered with 16 shots and seven shots on goal.
In the second game, junior Lucas Ciocca found the net in the 12th minute and the goal stood up as Bishop Dwenger shut out the Bull Dogs. Sophomore Luca Cruz assisted on Ciocca’s goal.
Iorio again played the full 80 minutes in the nets, this time collecting three saves.
The Bull Dogs totaled 16 shots and four shots on goal. The Saints managed eight shots and four shots on goal.
At the JV level, Columbus North dropped both games – 6-0 to Zionsville and 1-0 to Guerin Catholic.
Zionsville’s JV outshot the Bull Dogs 33-3, including a 17-1 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman Christopher Perez allowed two goals with three saves in the first half. Sophomore Lukas Iorio gave up four goals with eight saves in the second half.
Guerin’s JV totaled 22 shots and 10 shots on goal, while CN countered with 10 shots and three shots on goal. Lukas Iorio played the full 70 minutes in goal, making nine saves, as the Bull Dogs’ JV completed the day with a 6-5-3 season record.
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 29) when it visits Seymour for the Bull Dogs’ final regular-season games of 2020. The JV game begins at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7 p.m.
