Boys Varsity Soccer
The Columbus North boys’ soccer team will face Jennings County in the first round of Class 3A Sectional 15 hosted by Seymour.
Pairings were announced Monday (Sept. 28) by the IHSAA, and the Bull Dogs will square off with the Panthers at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 6).
In other first-round matchups, Floyd Central will face host Seymour at 6 p.m. Monday (Oct. 5) and New Albany will meet Columbus East in the second game on Tuesday (Oct. 6).
In the semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 7, Jeffersonville will meet the Floyd Central-Seymour winner in the first game at 5 p.m. The Tuesday winners will square off in the second game at about 7 p.m.
The Oct. 7 winners will play for the sectional title on Saturday, Oct. 10.
The sectional winner will play in the Seymour Regional on Saturday, Oct. 17. Sectional winners from Bedford North Lawrence and Seymour will play in the first semifinal. Winners from the Center Grove and Castle sectionals will play in the second semifinal. The championship game will be later that day.
The regional winner qualifies for the semi-state, which will be on Saturday, Oct. 24 at either Seymour or Evansville.
The semi-state champion advances to the IHSAA State Finals, which will be either Oct. 30 at Grand Park in Westfield or Oct. 31 at Fishers High School.
Columbus North brings a 5-5-4 record into the final week of the regular season. The Bull Dogs visit Seymour at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 29) to conclude their regular season.
Freshman Aidan Whitley leads the Bull Dogs with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Junior Nathan White has added 14 points on four goals and six assists, while junior Jesse Williams has 12 points on five goals and two assists.
Senior goalkeeper Colvin Iorio has a 1.43 goals against average and two shutouts.
For the season, Columbus North has outscored its opponents 26-20.
Sectional admission is $6 per session or $10 for an all-session pass. Regional admission is $8 per session or $10 for a two-session pass. Semi-state admission is $10 per person. State Finals admission is $12 per session.
Columbus North has won 14 sectionals since the IHSAA began holding a boys’ soccer state tournament in 1994. This is the fourth season for a three-class tournament.
