Boys Varsity Soccer
SEYMOUR, Ind. – Columbus East scored a pair of first-half goals on Wednesday evening (Oct. 7), and the Olympians’ boys soccer team made them stand up in posting a 2-0 victory over Columbus North in the semifinals of the Seymour Sectional.
Sophomore Cam Trueblood found the net in the second minute and senior Alejandro Saldivar scored in the 29th minute as Columbus East (8-2-7) moved into the sectional final against Jeffersonville (10-3-0), a 1-0 winner over Floyd Central.
Junior Chris Quisenberry recorded assists on both goals, while sophomore Pete Coriden notched seven saves in posting the shutout for the Olympians.
The first goal came off a Quisenberry corner kick, Trueblood finding the net from about 3 yards out. On the second goal, Quisenberry beat three CN defenders along the left end line, then passed to a streaking Saldivar, who finished the play from 7 yards away.
Senior Colvin Iorio played the full game in the nets for CN, recording five saves.
The Bull Dogs totaled 17 shots and seven shots on goal for the game. The Olympians countered with 12 shots and seven shots on goal.
Columbus North saw its season end at 7-6-4. Floyd Central’s season ended at 12-5-1.
The sectional final is set for 7 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 10). Columbus East is seeking its second consecutive sectional championship and the program’s sixth overall. Jeffersonville is chasing its seventh sectional crown and first since 2012.
