Girls Cross Country
Seniors Charlie Allen and Arig Tong were cited as most valuable athletes on Wednesday (Nov. 15) for the 2017 Columbus North cross country teams at the annual season-ending team gathering.
Allen, who placed 72nd in the IHSAA state meet, was recognized as most valuable on the boys’ team. Tong, who was 99th at state, was MVP for the girls’ team.
The boys finished 17th as a team at state. The girls were 24th as a team at state.
Other special honors at the banquet went to junior Sam Horak and sophomore Olivia Morlok, who received the respective boys’ and girls’ Bull Dog Awards.
Allen, team MVP for the second consecutive season, was recognized as a boys’ all-Conference Indiana runner. Tong and Morlok earned girls’ all-CI laurels.
Seniors Evan Porter and Spencer Sherlock were chosen first-team Academic All-State by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches. Horak, junior Rishi Poludasu, senior Abel Spalding and senior Drew Thompson were selected IATCCC honorable mention Academic All-State.
Seniors Kirsten Ballard and Madelyn Sanders were honored as first-team Academic All-State by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association. Tong was cited as ICGSA honorable mention Academic All-State.
Sherlock, Spalding and senior Peyton Shelton were recognized as team captains for the boys. Ballard, Sanders and Tong were honored as team captains for the girls.
Boys earning varsity letters were seniors Charlie Allen, Drew Falkner, Evan Porter, Peyton Shelton, Spencer Sherlock, Abel Spalding and Drew Thompson; juniors Jarrett Embry, Sam Horak, Parker Lee, Rishi Poludasu, Paxton Rush, John Sluys and John Wills; sophomore Carson Littrell; and freshmen Collin Pruitt and Gabe Wills.
Girls presented varsity letters were seniors Kirsten Ballard, Ava Becker, Alexa Eaton, Jocelyn Maynard, Madelyn Sanders and Arig Tong; juniors Sydney Geckler, Abbey Landini, Emma Lawson and Emma Smith; sophomores Kennedy Kerber and Olivia Morlok; and freshmen Ella Anderson, Mackenzie Barnett and Aric Tong.
Other boys recognized were seniors Joel Carroll, Harrison Ho and Neil Staley; juniors Kaden Brooks, Aidan Graham, Eric Huang and Sam Lamba; sophomores Tristen Grant, Zane Gruwell, Lucas Hayes, Ethan Hester, Trevor Lirette, Ben Malone, Ryan Spoon and Pranav Vankataraman; and freshmen Parker Ballard, Jackson Davis, Gui Oehninger, Mickey Reisinger, Aiden Smith and Andy Stohr.
Other girls cited were seniors Kiersten Glesing, Claire Malone and Catharine Reed; junior Julia Martin; sophomores Molly Dye, Julia Eaken, Kate Falkner, Paola Fernandez-Jimenez, Taylor Klingler, Gabrielle Lifferth, Zuleima Lopez, Karla Perez, Katie Richards, Sydney Sluys and Caroline Swenson; and freshmen Naomy Argueta, Riehle Ferguson, Madeline Malcomb, Soumya Paliwal, Erin Rawlins, Nela Riddle, Megan Saeger and Saanvikah Saravanan.
