Boys Swim & Dive
November 10, 2021 - With the departure of head swimming and diving coach Logan Schaefer just prior to the start of the 2021-22 season, Columbus North Athletic Director Brian Lewis found himself in a bit of a bind. Few qualified coaches were available to fill the vacancy left when Schaefer left for a new club opportunity in Ohio, especially so close to the beginning of the season. Fortunately Lewis was able to find a replacement and didn’t even have to leave BCSC. CSA Lincoln Principal Brett Findley has been named Interim Head Coach for the 2021-22 season.
Coach Findley is a Franklin Community High School and Wabash College graduate who swam in both high school and college. Findley specialized in Butterfly, distance freestyle, and participated in open water races. He was the head coach of Franklin Community High School and started the Franklin Regional Swim Team, where he served as head coach for six years. Prior to his stint in Franklin, Findley served as an assistant coach at Center Grove High School and as the head club coach for the Avon Community Swim Team.
Findley is excited to take over the Columbus North swim program. “I’m here because I want these kids to be able to have a season. I have a long history with CNHS swimming. I knew (former head coach) Jim Sheridan as both an athlete and as a coach, and there is such a rich history of success with this program. I hope my children will choose to swim one day, so I’m happy to help keep it going in the right direction,” Findley explained.
When asked about the goals that he has for his teams this season, Findley replied, “I told the swimmers that while I’m only here for one year, this won’t be a case of just trying to make it through the season. We’ve got some talented athletes on the team and they are really learning how to work hard. We are still getting to know each other and I’m learning how I can push each of them individually to be their best. Our goals will continue to develop as we find and build around our strengths as a team.”
"Brett has a great coaching resume, he's a great motivator and communicator, and he'll push our kids to make them better every day," Lewis explained. "I'm excited to have him on board."
Findley is in his seventh year as principal at CSA Lincoln after three years as assistant principal at Northside Middle School and six years teaching high school Social Studies. He and his wife, Michelle, have two children, Calvin (6) and Audrey (3).
The Bull Dogs are very happy to welcome Coach Brett Findley and wish him all the best as he leads our swimming and diving programs.
