Smith, Herndon, Salemme and Barnett capture blue ribbons in Bloomington North indoor meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Tucker Smith, junior Emily Herndon, senior Adrienne Salemme and junior Mackenzie Barnett each captured blue ribbons Wednesday evening (March 11), headlining the performances by the Columbus North track teams in the Bloomington North Invitational at the Indiana University facility.

Smith took the top spot in the boys’ shot put with a mark of 60 feet, 7 inches, recording a distance even better than the 60-3½ mark that he posted in the season-opening indoor meet on March 3. The 60-7 also topped the school record of 58-2¾ that he set last year, but school records may be set only in outdoor meets. Junior J.J. Montgomery placed sixth in the event in 45-7¼.

Herndon gave the Bull Dogs two winners in the shot put. She prevailed in the girls’ event with a best of 36-9¾. Sophomore Alivia Steinkoenig placed third at 33-5 and freshman Linley Smith was eighth at 31-3¾.

Salemme finished first for the second consecutive week, clearing 11-0 in the girls’ pole vault, a mark 6 inches better than the opening meet. Sophomore Charly Kleinhenz was fourth in the event at 8-6.

Barnett ran to a blue ribbon in the girls’ 3,200, crossing the finish in 11:21.51.

Junior Andy Stohr was second and sophomore Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff placed fourth in the boys’ 3,200 with respective times of 9:48.64 and 9:55.52. Juniors Helena Ho and La’Monica Smith posted a 3-4 finish in the girls’ 60 in 8.15 and 8.17. Freshman Emma Long tied for third and sophomore Sasha Goodlow tied for fifth in the girls’ high jump with marks of 4-10 and 4-8. Freshman Clayton Guthrie and sophomore Will Kiel placed 4-5 in the boys’ 1,600 with times of 4:47.07 and 4:48.53.

Other strong individual finishes included senior Kennedy Kerber, third in the girls’ 1,600 in 5:34.88; senior Ben Malone, sixth in the 60 hurdles in 8.69; and freshman Emma Gray, eighth in the girls’ 60 hurdles in 10.47.

                Top CN relay efforts were:

                >> Sophomore Grace Whaley, junior Ella Meek, freshman Helen Alderfer and junior Erin Rawlins, fourth in the girls’ 4x400 in 4:30.61.
