Hillenburg steps down as Columbus North boys track coach and assistant football coach

Trent Hillenburg has resigned as boys track head coach and assistant football coach at Columbus North.

Hillenburg held the boys’ track lead position for just one season, although only two indoor meets were the only events in which he guided the team. The remainder of the 2020 track season for boys and girls – and all other spring sport competitions – were canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A 2000 graduate of Seymour High School, Hillenburg competed in football, wrestling and track for the Owls. He attended Hanover College and Butler University, graduating from Butler in 2005 and playing football for the Bulldogs.

Hillenburg began his career in education at the Jefferson Education Center for one year. He then moved to Columbus North, where he has been a social studies teacher and assistant football coach for 14 years. He also was an assistant track coach for seven years prior to being named the boys’ head coach for the 2019-2020 school year.

Hillenburg and his wife, Bethany Scruton, have one son, Maximus, 2.
