August 13, 2022 - First-year head coach Logan Haston knew that his Bull Dogs had plenty of things to clean up coming out of last weekend’s Blue and White scrimmage. The Dogs clearly got some issues resolved during this past week of practice as Friday night’s performance against the Woodmen of Greenwood High School was a much more polished product. While there was no official score kept for the IHSAA scrimmage, the Dogs found the end zone eight times for the night, and allowed the Woodmen only three scores, all three of which came from the Red Zone portion of the scrimmage with the ball starting on the ten yard line. The first segment of the scrimmage saw both teams run 15 plays beginning atthe -35 yard line. The Dogs were a little sluggish on both sides to begin, with the defense allowing Greenwood to drive into the Bull Dogs’ territory, but stiffened and kept them out of the end zone. Offensively, North was a bit shaky for the first few plays until Sam Mormino busted the 13th of 15 plays 53 yards for a touchdown and the Bull Dogs dominated the remainder of the scrimmage. The Dogs scored five times in the Red Zone segment, four on passes from Zac Horn (shown) and one rushing score from Mormino. North then scored three more times the remainder of the scrimmage, with Hudson Elwood throwing two touchdown passes. Unofficially, the Bull Dogs scored eight times and allowed three scores. Horn was 14-for-19 passing for 113 yards and four scores. Elwood was 1-for-three for three yards and a score. Mormino rushed for 105 yards on 13 carries, including three touchdowns. Cooper Horn had six receptions for 51 yards and three touchdowns. The Bull Dog defense gave up 71 rushing yards and 62 passing yards for the night. The Dogs will kick off the regular season at Decatur Central on Friday, August 20 at 7:00 pm.
