August 28, 2023 - In 2022, the Columbus North and Columbus East boys soccer programs battled to a 0-0 draw. Through much of the 2023 matchup, it appeared as though the match was headed toward a repeat performance. Columbus East and Columbus North each found the net in the last twenty minutes of the match, with the scoreboard recording a 1-1 draw. Columbus North (4-0-1) dominated the match statistically, but East’s keeper kept turning away Bull Dogs opportunities. In the first half alone, North had 14 shots (five on-goal) compared to just one shot by East. For the match, Columbus North pounded a whopping 28 shots with eight shots being on-goal. East totaled just one shot with none on goal. East’s lone goal came off of a corner kick that ricocheted off of a North player for an ‘own-goal’ in the 60th minute. This was the first scoreboard deficit that North had faced all season. The Dogs then answered nine minutes later with a penalty kick by Christian Cardoso after East was called for a hand ball in the box, knotting the match 1-1. Juan Jose Sacedo Calderon covered the goal for all 80 minutes in the 1-1 draw. The Columbus North JV team (1-2-2) beat East in dominating fashion by a score of 6-0. The Dogs will travel to Center Grove on Tuesday, August 29. JV is scheduled to begin at 5:30 with the varsity to follow shortly thereafter.
