Cross country with great showings using split squad

August 28, 2023 - It was a busy Saturday for the Columbus North boys and girls cross country teams. Head coach Rick Sluder split his squads, sending the varsity runners to Evansville for the Dennis Bays Invitational and his reserves to Franklin for the Franklin Invitational. At the Dennis Bays Invite, the Bull Dogs boys won the team title with 52 points, with Neal White finishing second individually. Bloomington North (54 points) finished second. The Columbus North girls finished just one point behind Bloomington South (72 points) to finish second. In Franklin, Columbus North (116 team points) finished third behind Center Grove (29) and Terre Haute South (101). Rylan Hottell was the Dogs’ top finisher, crossing the line in 20th place (17:39.7) among the 237 competitors. In the girls division, North finished sixth with 164 points. Center Grove won the girls division with 39 points. Individually, the Bull Dogs were led by Reece Peeples who finished 21st in 22:22.4. The Bull Dogs will host the Columbus North Invitational at Ceraland on Saturday, September 2. The girls race is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am, with the boys to follow.
