August 30, 2023 - Head boys soccer coach Andy Glover has had his eye on this week on his calendar for quite some time. After a 1-1 draw with cross-town rival Columbus East on Saturday, Glover’s squad has three matches this week, two on the road, and two of which are against ranked opponents. First up was a trip to ninth-ranked Center Grove for his Bull Dogs, currently ranked number four in Class 3A. The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw after a 1-0 victory for the Bull Dogs in the JV (2-2-2) match. The Dogs (4-0-2) controlled the ball and a number of shots in the first half, but couldn’t find the net. Adian Espejel was just wide with a shot early in the second half, but the score remained 0-0. In the 51st minute, Center Grove was called for a handball in the box, giving the Bull Dogs a penalty kick. Unfortunately for North, they were unable to convert the PK. Four minutes later, Christian Cardoso scored off of a Mathiang Kak assist, giving the Dogs a 1-0 lead. The Trojans answered just three minutes later with a score off of a corner kick. Aidan Whitley had two more opportunities to score late in the match, first on a free kick from a Center Grove handball, and then with just two seconds remaining in the match, but his kick sailed just high. The Bull Dogs out-shot the Trojans 19-4, with an ‘on-goal’ advantage of 7-2. Juan Jose Salcedo Calderon and Noah Marsh split time in goal for the Dogs. Salcedo Calderon had no saves and allowed no goals in the first half, with Marsh being credited with one save and one goal allowed in the second half. Next up for the Dogs will be a trip to twelfth-ranked Cathedral on Thursday, August 31. JV will begin at 5:30 with varsity to follow.
