August 31, 2023 - Fourth-ranked Columbus North boys soccer team traveled to twelfth-ranked Cathedral and were dealt their first loss of the season by a 2-1 decision. A penalty kick in the first minute of the match following a foul in the box by the Bull Dogs (4-1-2) put the Irish on the board early. Cathedral put another goal on the board in the 37th minute to make it a 2-0 match at halftime. Christian Cardoso converted a hand-ball penalty kick in the 59th minute to cut the Cathedral lead to 2-1, but the Dogs were unable to find the net again the rest of the match. North had 13 shots with four being on frame. Cathedral tallied ten shots, also having four on goal for the match. Noah Marsh kept goal all 80 minutes and was credited with a pair of saves. Cathedral also took the early match by a score of 2-0, dropping the JV team to 2-3-2 for the season. Next up for the Dogs will be a home matchup with North Central on Saturday afternoon at the BCSC Soccer Complex. JV will begin at 12:00 noon, with varsity to follow.
