September 3, 2023 - Gino Prescott rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown, and Asher Ratliff threw for 98 yards and three touchdowns as Columbus North steamrolled Southport 35-6 in their Conference Indiana opener. The Dogs scored five touchdowns in a span of six possessions and recorded a safety for the second consecutive game as North jumped out to a 35-0 lead one possession into the second half, forcing a running clock to be used the remainder of the contest. Braylon Thoman had three receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown as Ratliff completed 7 of 13 passes for the night. Ratliff also ran for 38 yards on three attempts for the Bull Dogs, who outgained the Cardinals 227-122. Sam Mormino added 37 yards rushing and a touchdown for North. A Columbus North fumble with under a minute to play allowed Southport one last play. The Cardinals were able to toss a touchdown pass as time expired to ruin the Bull Dogs’ shutout. The Dogs held the Cardinals 0-for-10 on third down conversions as the Southport offense was never able to gain any traction against a swarming North defense. The two team split the sub-varsity games on Saturday with Southport winning the freshman game 7-0, and the Bull Dogs blanking the Cardinals 20-0 in the JV matchup at Southport. Next up for the Dogs (2-1) will be a road trip to Roncalli. The Royals are 1-2, beating Southport in week 1 and losing to Franklin Central and Indianapolis Chatard the past two weeks. Kickoff on Friday, September 8 is scheduled for 7:00 at Roncalli HIgh School.
