Baseball pulls off another thriller
By Jason Perry | Apr 8, 2026 8:59 AM
April 8, 2026 - One night after Sam Perry’s bases loaded double helped the Dogs come from behind to beat Roncalli, North needed late-inning heroics once again to beat East Central 9-8 Tuesday evening at the Southside diamonds. Trailing 8-7 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night, Perry ripped a leadoff double to left field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Daiju Iwaya. Brock Kintner then singled Perry home to tie the game 8-8. Isaac Genth doubled to send Kintner to third base before East Central intentionally walked Jack Whaley to load the bases with one out. Javier Uscanga then had an infield pop up to leave the bases loaded with two outs. Macario Mendez then drew a game-ending walk, bringing Kintner in from third. Kintner had three hits on the night, and North (3-3) got two each from Genth and Whaley, who had four RBI for the night. Iwaya got the start on the mound for the Dogs, lasting 3-⅓ innings. Iwaya allowed three runs (only one earned) on six hits, while striking out three. Jesse Clark tossed 1-⅔ innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on one hit. Kintner got the win in his two innings of relief, allowing two runs on one hit, walking three and striking out three. The Dogs committed three errors in the field. The JV team lost to East Central 5-4 in the game on the adjacent diamond to fall to 0-2 for the season. North will travel to Jeffersonville this evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30. The JV team will be at Shelbyville at 5:30.
