September 13, 2023 - For the first time all season, the varsity volleyball team played a match that was extended to a fifth-set tiebreaker. The Dogs proved to be up to the task, putting a damper on Franklin Central’s Senior Night, with a 3-2 non-conference victory. The Dogs jumped out to a 1-0 set lead with a 25-20 victory in the opening set. The Flashes rallied to take set two (27-25) and set three (25-20). The Bull Dogs regrouped to win the fourth set 25-21 to even the match at two sets apiece and force a fifth set. The Dogs won the set 15-12 to secure a 3-2 victory, improving their record to 9-6 for the season. The Flashes had no answer for middle hitter Kennedy Horn, who tallied 25 kills and three blocks for the match. Reese Edwards had 25 assists and 14 digs, Karen Dutro added 25 kills of her own to go along with five blocks. Morgan Osborn recorded 29 digs to lead all Bull Dogs in that category, and Kaitlyn Mabis addes 12 digs. Roselynn Venegas was credited with four aces, and Elaina Pendrod had three blocks. The two teams split the early matches with Franklin Central winning the JV match 2-0, and the Dogs sweeping the freshman match 2-0. Next up for the Bull Dogs will be a short road trip to Jennings County for a JV/varsity double header on Thursday (September 14), beginning at 6:00 pm.
