April 27, 2026 - Despite holding Bloomington North to just five hits, those five hits were all the Cougars needed to beat Columbus North 5-1, dropping the Dogs to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in Conference Indiana play. Jack Whaley hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Dogs just couldn’t muster much offense otherwise. They were held to just four hits for the game. Franko Ortega got the start and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts. Macario Mendez came on in relief in the fifth and gave up two runs on two hits, walking two and striking out five. Brock Kinter, Mendez, and Jesse Clark each added singles for the Bull Dogs’ only hits. The Bull Dogs will have the weekend off before starting another busy week of games next week. They will travel to New Albany on Monday, April 20 for a 6:00 game while the JV hosts Bedford North Lawrence at 5:30 pm.
