September 16, 2023 - Coming off of a disappointing performance last Friday night at Roncalli, head coach Logan Haston made intensity and effort a priority in practice this week. While the Bull Dogs had a much more productive week of practice, they faced a steep challenge Friday night with the Class 3A top-ranked Bishop Chatard Trojans. The Dogs kept the game close until late in the third quarter, but ultimately fell 28-3. Chatard took advantage of excellent field position throughout the night and used a balanced attack against the Bull Dogs defense, gaining 177 yards through the air on 13-of-17 passing, and 128 yards on the ground on 32 carries. Other than one long pass play (a 44-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, North’s defense forced Chatard to methodically work their way down the field. Unfortunately the Dogs were facing an opponent that could do exactly that, earning crucial third-down conversions throughout the night. Offensively the Bull Dogs showed signs of being able to move the ball against the swarming Trojans defense, but miscues, turnovers, and crucial penalties prevented the Dogs from sustaining drives. North could only muster 124 yards of total offense, with 73 yards rushing on 33 attempts, and 65 yards passing on 13-of-20 from quarterback Asher Ratliff. Ratliff was North’s leading rusher with 53 yards on twelve carries. Braylon Thoman led North’s receiving crew with eight catches for 49 yards. Bryce Luttrell was responsible for the Bull Dogs’ only points, nailing a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter after a fourth-down stop by the Bull Dogs’ defense. The Bull Dogs will travel to Terre Haute North on Friday, September 22 as they jump back into their Conference Indiana season after two weeks of non-conference play. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
