September 27, 2023 - For the second time this season, Columbus North volleyball has built a five-match winning streak after a 3-0 sweep of Bedford North Lawrence in Memorial Gym on Tuesday evening. The JV team swept BNL 2-0 and the varsity picked up right where they left off, winning the first set 25-14. Head coach Jenna Ortega experimented with some new lineup combinations in the second match, and her squad answered the call with a 25-21 victory to take a 2-0 lead. Bedford gained some momentum in the third set, and even led late in the match, but the Dogs (now 14-9) ended the match with a 27-25 victory in set three, giving them a 3-0 sweep for the evening. The Bull Dogs’ biggest advantage came in the front line as the Stars seemed to have no answer for the size and hard hitting of North’s front row players. Kennedy Horn and Elaina Penrod each had eleven kills, Sydney Ousley added seven, while Karen Dutro and Lucy Wilson each tallied six kills for North. Horn, Penrod, and Reese Edwards all had two blocks in the victory. Morgan Osborn and Katelynn Mabis recorded 19 and ten digs, respectively, and Roselynn Venegas led Columbus North in serving aces with seven. Columbus North will make the short trip across town to take on Columbus East on Thursday (September 28), beginning at 6:00 pm (JV and freshmen). Varsity will follow the JV match.
