August 22, 2026 - First year head coach Buster Davis was anxious to see if his squad had some toughness. If the first game of the season was any indication, Davis likes what he sees. Columbus North traveled to Whiteland to open the 2026 season, and after a 49-7 victory over the Warriors in week one last season, Whiteland certainly had this game circled on the schedule. The Dogs capitalized on an early Warrior turnover Friday night and held on for a 14-7 victory. In an old-fashioned slug fest, where the two teams combined for just 18 pass attempts for the game, Whiteland edged the Dogs 217-191, but North won where it counted - on the scoreboard. North had a three minute edge in time-of-possession, but the ten penalties will need to be cleaned up as the season progresses if the Dogs are going to continue their winning ways. Senior quarterback Max Wilson was 5-for-8 through the air for 100 yards and one touchdown to Hunter Koharchick. Koharchick and Logan Hammons each caught two passes for the Dogs, while Keaton Russell rushed 17 times for 53 yards to lead the ground attack. Whiteland won both of Saturday’s sub-varsity contests at Columbus North, beating the freshmen 30-6 and winning the JV game 14-0. Next week the Bull Dogs (1-0) will host Columbus East (0-1) as part of Rivalry Week. Kick off is set for 7:00 pm on Friday, August 28, and will feature new head coaches on each sideline. North has won five consecutive matchups with the Olympians, and nine of the last ten, but with new coaching staffs and new offensive and defensive schemes in each program, this year’s matchup should be very competitive.
