North tennis wins sixth-straight semi-state title

October 8, 2023 - After a 3-2 victory by the Bull Dogs on September 7 at Columbus North, twelfth-ranked Center Grove and second-ranked North met again in the Semi-state round of the IHSAA boys tennis tournament, this time at Center Grove. The Bull Dogs came away with another 3-2 victory to claim their sixth straight Semi-state title, and eleventh in program history. Amrit Kar and Anvay Atram (25-1) got the match started with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at one doubles. The Trojans evened the match 1-1 with a 1-6, 5-7 victory over Austin Clark at three singles. North’s top singles player, Hank Lin, then moved to 18-0 for the season when he won his match 6-3, 6-4. Center Grove drew even again with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 victory over Yoki Murabayashi and Michael Crossman at two doubles, putting the outcome of the match squarely on the shoulders of Parth Shah at two singles. Shah answered valiantly with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, handing the match to the Bull Dogs. Columbus North (22-1) will have a rematch with 15th-ranked Floyd Central on Friday at Center Grove in the State Quarterfinals. The Bull Dogs edged Floyd Central 3-2 at Floyd Central on September 16.
