Tennis team sneaks past Floyd Central in State Quarterfinals

October 13, 2023 - Second-ranked Columbus North edged fifteenth-ranked Floyd Central 3-2 in Friday’s State Quarterfinal match, enabling the Bull Dogs to advance to Saturday’s State Semifinals against Jasper on Saturday at North Central. North’s two-doubles team (Michael Crossman/Yoki Murabayashi) got the match started off with a quick 6-2, 6-0 victory to give North a 1-0 lead. Hank Lin then put the Dogs up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at one-singles. Parth Shah lost his two-singles match 4-6, 2-6 after being up 4-1 in the first set as the Highlanders cut the lead to 2-1. The turning point in the match came at one-doubles. Anvay Atram and Amrit Kar trailed 5-0 in the first set before rallying for a 7-5, 6-2 victory, giving the Bull Dogs the crucial third point and the match victory. Austin Clark dropped his three singles match 2-6, 4-6 to conclude the match with the 3-2 Bull Dog victory. The Dogs will face Jasper at 11:00 am at North Central High School Saturday morning with the winner advancing to the State Finals later that day.
