October 14, 2023 - Columbus North finished their regular season with a thrilling 22-20 victory over Conference Indiana foe Terre Haute South on a cool, rainy evening at Max Andress Field. The victory earned the Dogs a 3-2 Conference Indiana record, good enough for third place in the conference standings. The Bull Dogs and Braves were tied at halftime, with North’s touchdown coming on a pass from Asher Ratliff to Gino Prescott in the second quarter. The Braves then opened the second half with a touchdown pass before the Dogs answered with a Ratliff to Braylon Thoman 57-yard touchdown pass. Thoman appeared to fumble just before the goal line, but the Bull Dogs fell on the ball in the end zone for the score. North’s defense came up big in the fourth quarter, earning a fourth-down stop in Braves’ territory, giving the offense a short field. Gino Prescott changed directions a number of times en route to a 17-yard touchdown run, giving the Dogs a one-score advantage. On the ensuing point-after attempt, Jackson Haston bobbled the snap before scooping up the ball and running it in for a two-point conversion, giving North a 22-14 lead. The Braves drove the field again for a score, but the two-point conversion failed enabling the Dogs to hold on for a 22-20 victory, concluding a 4-5 regular season. Statistically, North gained 348 yards of total offense (232 passing and 116 rushing), compared to 330 for Terre Haute North. Ratliff was 21-for-30 with two touchdowns and one interception. Prescott finished with 65 yards rushing on 15 carries. Thoman had five catches for 94 yards to lead the Dogs in receiving yardage. The Bull Dogs will have a week off along with the remainder of Class 6A as they prepare for the Sectional tournament. North will host Jeffersonville on October 27 at 7:00 pm.
