Boys soccer tournament run ends with 2-1 loss to Cathedral

October 22, 2023 - The Bull Dogs boys soccer team finished their season with another Final Four run, dropping their State Semifinal match to Cathedral 2-1 at the BCSC Soccer Complex on Saturday (October 21). The Bull Dogs got on the board first with an Obed Oliva (shown) goal in the 31st minute. His goal came from a Derek Arau assist. Cathedral then answered five minutes later, tying the score 1-1 heading into halftime. The match-winning goal came in the 61st minute by Cathedral, ending North’s season with a 14-4-3 record. North had a 5-4 advantage in shots-on-goal over the Irish, but Cathedral out-shot the Dogs 9-7 overall. Juan Jose Salcedo Calderon recorded a pair of saves in 80 minutes of work in goal for Columbus North. The Final Four run was the second consecutive for Columbus North, who finished as State Runners-up following the 2022 season. The Bull Dogs will say goodbye to six seniors following the 2023 season. These include Obed Olvia, Christian Cardoso, Misaki Takemoto, Aidan Whitley, Derek Arau, and Nico Gotoh.
