October 6, 2026 - Columbus North volleyball spent weeks trying to schedule a late season match to replace their Silver Creek match that was canceled by Silver Creek earlier in the season. Luckily a very talented Greenwood Christian (19-7) team were able to squeeze the Bull Dogs into their schedule on Monday evening, and Memorial Gymnasium hosted one of the most exciting matches of the season. The Dogs survived a five-set thriller against the Cougars, improving to 16-8 for the season. The Cougars took the first set 25-20, but the Dogs rallied to take the next two, 25-18 and 25-23. Greenwood Christian forced a fifth set with a 25-21 victory in set four, and led 14-11 in the final race to 15. However, the Dogs battled to win the final five points, earning a 16-14 victory in the final set and a 3-2 match victory. The JV team won the opening match in straight sets to win their fourth consecutive match and improve to 13-7. In the varsity match, Tania Maldonado led the Dogs with 19 kills, Sophie Rohls had five service aces, Shelby Sharp tallied 18 digs, Rohls had four blocks and eight block assists, and Lexi Denny accumulated 54 assists to lead North (16-8) to its seventh victory in the last eight matches. The Dogs won’t get much time to enjoy their victory as they travel to 24-2 Bloomington South this evening. JV and freshman matches are scheduled for a 6:00 start, with varsity to follow.
