October 9, 2026 - Some programs like to ease into the sectional tournament with a light schedule late in the season. The Columbus North girls volleyball team is not one of those programs. After a five set thriller at home against Class 1A fourth ranked Greenwood Christian on Monday, North traveled to Class 3A top five ranked Bloomington South on Tuesday, and last night traveled to perennial power Franklin Community. Like Monday night, the Dogs came home with a five set victory. The Grizzly Cubs took the first set 25-21, but the Dogs fought back to take sets two and three 25-22, and 25-16, respectively. After a 25-23 victory for the Grizzly Cubs in set four, the Bull Dogs won the fifth set tiebreaker 15-11 to improve to 17-9 for the season. Statistical leaders for the Bull Dogs at Franklin Community included: Kills: Izabella Rice 18, Tania Maldonado 13 Service Aces: Rori Pollert 5, Lexi Denny 4 Digs: Kyndal Wheeler 17, Shelby Sharp 9 Solo Blocks: Sophie Rohls 5, Maldonado 2 Block Assists: Rohls 3 Assists: Denny 42 The JV and freshman teams each lost 2-0 to Franklin Community. The JV finished their season with a 14-8 record, and the freshmen finished 5-12. North will compete in the Lawrence North Wildcat Invitational this Saturday as a final tuneup before facing Whiteland in the Columbus East Sectional on Thursday, October 15.
