North runners up at Batesville Holiday Tournament

December 30, 2023 - Columbus North boys basketball continue to battle through injuries in their lineup and were able to finish runners up in the Batesville Holiday Tournament, beating host Batesville before losing to Roncalli. In round one against Batesville, the Dogs trailed 44-40 after three quarters, but a 16-9 advantage in the final stanza led to a 56-53 victory. Freshman Judah Lewis nailed a trio of three-point goals in the final period to spark Columbus North. Garrett Long (shown) led all scorers with 18 points and the Dogs got 16 more from Caleb Ferguson. In the championship game, Columbus North and Roncalli were knotted 38-38 after three quarters, but this time the Bull Dogs were on the short end of an 18-8 fourth quarter, leading to a 56-46 loss. Caleb Ferguson again netted 16 points for the Dogs (3-5). The JV team dropped both games of the tournament, 60-49 to Batesville and 44-32 to Roncalli. Zach Fedor had 15 against Batesville, and Brennan Hester topped the Bull Dogs with twelve against Roncalli. The JV team is now 5-3 for the season. North will begin its Conference Indiana season on Friday, January 6 as they will host Terre Haute North beginning at 6:30 pm. The varsity will follow around 8:00.
